ABOUT THE PROJECT

The central aim of our project is to cross boundaries. In a world so diverse and heterogeneous, the concept of transgression seems to come to the fore. Moving beyond stereotypes, including in art, may help people today navigate a world full of conflict, danger, paradoxes and misunderstanding. This situation persists to this day: as new threats emerge, we face further challenges, problems and discoveries.

These include new theories describing humankind, our place in the world and the Universe itself, often putting forward mutually exclusive propositions. Ancient and Renaissance investigations into the truth about the cosmos were continued by Newton, Einstein and Hawking. Quantum physics, which revolutionised twentieth-century science, revealed a lack of coherence and complementarity between its individual branches. The concepts of time and space lost their original meaning as static dimensions. This influenced the perception and consciousness of modern human beings, whose psyche does not depend on religion, culture or place of birth. This discovery by Sigmund Freud convinced us that it offers an ideal basis for a two-act opera exploring the fears of the world in the third decade of the twenty-first century.

The contemporary transgressive opera “LUSTRO” is part of The Platform of Newly Created Transgressive Sounds (TPONTS), a project included in the City of Bydgoszcz’s application to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

This year’s edition of the LUSTRO opera platform marks the culmination of three years of work and presents the complete opera in its final form, with its definitive cast and staging.
